“7 Simple Secrets That Will
Triple
the Results You’re Getting
From Your Website!”
Revealed at last: How & what
to put on your website to make it look good,
work well, and make
sense.
o you have a website? Would you like
to?
If so, chances are you’d like to have that
site working FOR you instead of being just another ‘wasted space’
page on the World Wide Web. After all, if you’re going to have a
site at all,
why not have it making money or producing leads for
you, right?
Every single day, I come across two types
of people:
- People who are interested in getting a
website for their business but don’t have a CLUE on how to do
it. OR
- People who already DO have a site or two
up, but they stink. (The site, not the people!)
If you do NOT belong in one of these
categories, then please – give yourself a hearty pat on the back &
kindly move on to read the next article. And feel proud of yourself
as you do so.
But if you would like to have a website that
WORKS for you – one that is efficient, profitable, and clear to your
visitor, then listen up! What you’re about to learn will make all
the difference in the world to you… and your website!
Oh, and if you believe that you’re just
terrible at technology & couldn’t put a site up if your life
depended on it, don’t worry! You can still read & learn from this
article. You’ll just need to find someone who knows website design
& then you can tell them exactly what you want them to do for
you! Simple, right? J
So, without any further delay, let’s get
started. Here are the 7 simple secrets for you to use that will
make you the envy of all your friends… online, anyway:
-
Give Your Readers a REASON for Coming to &
Staying on Your Site!
What does your site DO? WHY should anyone be there?
Listen, if someone can’t tell what the heck you’re trying to say
& why they should be there within the first FIVE seconds of
arriving, you’ve lost ‘em. Click. Next!
Let me ask you something: What are you offering your visitor?
How are you different from anyone else who may be offering
something similar to what you have? These are the questions you
should answer BEFORE you even begin to put your site together.
For example, if you’re a real estate investor, and your goal is
to have a site that automatically collects leads of motivated
sellers for you, you should gear your site to WHAT you can do
for your target, the seller. Use an attention-grabbing headline
in bold, large print that clearly distinguishes you from any
other investor. More on that headline in a moment.
There have been more times than I can count that I’ve come to
someone’s website & got so confused within the first 5-10
seconds that I simply closed the window & never returned. Hey,
that person could have had the world’s best whatever, but
because their site sucked, they lost me. I wonder how
many other people they’ve lost as well. Please don’t let this
happen to you.
-
K.I.S.S. it Better…Keep
It a Simple Site!
First of all, don’t even think about using
excessive graphics or ‘flash.’ The right WORDS will
sell, not fancy graphics, etc. Your visitors are NOT interested
in that stuff. In fact, it can take away from what you
want to accomplish.
What your visitors DO want is to know what’s playing at their
favorite radio station: WIIFM (What’s In It For Me).
The only real exception to this is to effectively use relevant
video or audio, such as somebody (maybe you) giving an example
of your business at work, testimonials, or just you talking
about what you can do for the visitor.
-
Keep it Clean.
Have you ever gone to a website & felt like you were looking at
it cross-eyed because it was so visually confusing? Or maybe
the colors didn’t match or there were just too many of them. Or
it just didn’t ‘flow.’
Whatever the case may have been, let’s prevent your site from
suffering this disease.
Here’s a mistake-free way of designing your site so that it
looks good, works well, and is easy on the eyes:
a. Make your background a darker color (dark blue,
black, or red)
b. Contrast this background by creating a Table with a white
background.
c. Center the table & make it take about 80% of the width of
your site (have some margin on either side of the table).
d. Write your text with a good font like Arial, Verdana, or
Times New Roman.
e. Spice up your text with occasional Bolding,
Italics, or Highlighting.
But use those techniques when you’re trying to emphasize
a point.
Those tips will make your site LOOK nice & clean.
Now let’s talk about the content of your site…
-
Learn All You Can About Copywriting!
I’ve said it before, and I’m saying it again.
While this is a skill that will take some time to learn if
you’re just starting out, it’s well worth it. Nothing
takes the place of good writing, and if your message contains
compelling, action-inspiring words, you’re going to get
results. Period.
Ever been to a seminar? Chances are, you read a sales letter
that made you take action. Ever buy something on the internet?
Same thing.
Here are some excellent resources for you to check out:
Dan Kennedy, Bob Bly, Joe Vitale, David Garfinkel, and John
Carlton. These are all well known copywriters who have
first-class materials you can learn from. Polish your text –
use power words like discover, amazing, astonishing, powerful,
etc. Just don’t over-use them or you’ll come across as
being too ‘hypey.’
Earlier, I mentioned something about a headline… I’d suggest
that you put one at the top of most of your web pages,
especially your Main page. Your headline HAS to be something
that stops the reader cold in his tracks, grabs him by the shirt
& says ‘READ ME!’
Continuing with the example of the real estate site, I’d suggest
something like what Richard Roop wrote as his headline:
Attention Sellers: “Sell Your House As-Is for a
Fair Price, and Close on the Day of Your Choice.”
Brilliant. It states WHAT you can do, HOW you’re different,
and it commands attention. Put that (or something like it)
at the TOP of your page, centered, in quotes, in big, bold red
lettering. NOW you’ll get their attention.
Here’s a couple more quick tips on content:
a. Use as many keywords that are related to your niche as
possible. In our example, we’d be sure to have the keyword
phrases “real estate”, “sell your house”, “sell my house fast”,
etc. in there are much as possible. The reason for this is that
the Search Engines are going to quickly take a look at
(crawl & spider) your site. When they ‘see’ these keywords, you
will get indexed as being a relevant site for your niche!
b. If you have testimonials, be sure to use them.
Nothing makes people feel more at ease in dealing with someone
than the law of social proof: “If everyone else has been
happy using you, then I should be too!”
-
Pick-a-Page!
Learn all 3 of these & how to
use ‘em.
When you boil it all down, there are really only 3 main
types of pages:
1. ‘Landing’,
2. ‘Sales’, and
3. ‘Credibility.’
Ideally, you should use all 3, but be clear about what is
what.
I’ll go in to more detail about what “Landing” & “Sales
Letter” Pages are in a moment, so let’s talk about your
“Credibility” Page, shall we?
A Credibility Page is, quite simply, where you
get to talk about yourself or your company. What makes you
different? The why, how, what, who, when, and where.
Brand yourself. Throw your testimonials up there. Give
examples of successful transactions you’ve conducted. But
focus on the reader.
The reason you’re doing this is because you want to have a
site about yourself to give to people to ‘check you out.’
You’ll make this a link from your other sites to this
one. Oh, and make your “Credibility” page on a separate
URL, such as YourName.com. Not available? Use
THEyourName.com
Or use your companyname.com
or
companynameonline.com.
6. Make
Your Home Page a “Squeeze/Landing Page.”
A “Landing” or “Squeeze” Page is just that: the first page
your visitor ‘lands’ on when they come to your site (NOT
your ‘Credibility’ site).
Its function is simple: To get their Name & Email address,
usually in exchange for something you give them for free.
This is extremely important! Why? Because if someone comes
to your site, chances are they’re interested in your niche,
or specific market. You may not sell them something the
first time, so it’s best to get their information so that
you can follow up with them later on. People do searches
online for instant gratification & prefer not to pay yet (in
most cases). This will give them the satisfaction of
learning something about what they want quickly, cheaply &
easily.
And once you’ve got ‘em on your hook, you can continue to
build a relationship with them, make them offers, or give
them more information about what they’re interested
in … for free!
Here’s how to make a
‘Landing Page’:
1. Have your benefit-laden headline at the top.
2. Have a free report, audio or something related to this niche
to give away – all they need to do to get it is give you their
name & email address.
3. Have an AUTORESPONDER hooked up to your page. This will
have a form for your visitor to enter their info. Look up
‘autoresponders’ on Google for a more detailed explanation.
4. Keep this page as short & sweet as you can. If possible,
make it so that your visitor doesn’t have to ‘scroll’ to get to
the bottom.
5. Give 3-5 bulleted benefits about what they’ll learn from you
report.
-
Make the
Page After Your ‘Landing Page’ Your ‘Sales Letter
Page.’
Ahhhh. This is where you can make some $$$.
And this is where you’ll either NEED to have those
copywriting skills,
or have to hire a decent copywriter.
And copywriters ain’t cheap. They can typically charge
anywhere from $1,000 to $25,000 for their services… And
that’s just for writing ONE sales letter!
That’s the bad news. The good news is that you can really
make a LOT of money using these techniques. Think about it
- if someone has come to your site, read what you have to
say, is in your niche, and volunteers their information in
exchange for your free report, chances are that at least a
decent percentage of people would be interested in buying
something you offer them, wouldn’t you agree?
Now, your offer should be well-written & appeal to their
desires, while at the same time delivering real value.
I’d like to get in to more detail about it here, but I’m
afraid we’re out of time!
Listen, I know that
I’ve thrown a lot at you in this article. While it was not my
intention to confuse you, I can understand if you might be
